A private cab carrying a group of pilgrims from Gujarat capsized after falling into the Bhagirathi River in Uttarakhand. The vehicle was reportedly navigating a narrow stretch of the river when it slipped and plunged into the fast‑moving water.
Rescue teams from the state disaster management department and local police arrived at the scene and began search‑and‑rescue operations. Four passengers were confirmed dead at the site, while two others could not be located and are currently listed as missing.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, including whether road conditions, vehicle overload or river currents contributed to the tragedy. Families of the victims have been informed, and a condolence ceremony is being arranged by local officials.
The incident underscores the risks associated with pilgrimage travel in mountainous regions, especially during the monsoon season when rivers swell and roads become hazardous.
