Four days after foresters released the Buxa tigress back into Assam's Raimona landscape, officials spotted her digging a new burrow, raising concerns about her settlement.

Foresters recently rescued a female tiger, known locally as the Buxa tigress, from the Raimona landscape in Assam and released her back into the forest after a brief captivity. The operation was part of ongoing efforts to relocate displaced wildlife to suitable habitats.

Within four days of her release, forest officials observed the tigress digging a fresh den in a different part of the forest. The activity suggests that the animal is not staying in the immediate area where she was reintroduced.

Such behaviour highlights the challenges of re‑establishing big cats in fragmented habitats and underscores the need for continuous monitoring. Authorities plan to track Buxa's movements using radio collars and assess whether the surrounding terrain meets her ecological requirements.

The incident also draws attention to the broader human‑wildlife conflict in Assam's protected zones, where tigers often venture into human‑dominated landscapes, prompting relocation efforts.

Officials reaffirm their commitment to ensuring the safety of both the tiger and local communities while seeking long‑term solutions for habitat connectivity.
