After a three‑year suspension due to ethnic violence in Manipur, the inter‑state bus linking Imphal, Dimapur and Guwahati has started operating again.

The inter‑state bus service that connects Imphal in Manipur with Dimapur in Nagaland and Guwahati in Assam has been reinstated after a three‑year hiatus caused by ethnic unrest in Manipur. The route, operated by private transport operators, was halted in 2020 when widespread violence disrupted normal life and travel across the region.

State officials said the decision to restart the service was taken after a thorough security assessment and coordination with police forces in the three states. Additional security personnel have been deployed at key boarding points in Imphal, Dimapur and Guwahati to ensure passenger safety.

Local business groups welcomed the move, noting that the bus link is vital for trade, tourism and daily commuters who rely on affordable road transport. The first bus left Imphal early on Monday morning, carrying passengers and goods to Dimapur and onward to Guwahati, marking a symbolic step toward normalcy in the conflict‑affected area.

Authorities have indicated that the service will run on a regular schedule, subject to periodic security reviews, and have urged travelers to cooperate with police checks. The resumption is seen as a positive sign of improving stability in Manipur and its neighboring states.
