A passenger bus speeding near Bairiya bus stand in Muzaffarpur struck a mother and her son on a scooter, killing the 50‑year‑old woman on the spot while the boy was left unconscious.

Muzaffarpur, Bihar – A passenger bus travelling at high speed collided with a mother and her son riding a scooter near the Bairiya bus stand. The impact proved fatal for the 50‑year‑old woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The boy, who suffered severe shock, was found unconscious and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for emergency care.
Police reports indicate that after the collision the driver of the bus fled the site, taking the vehicle with him. Local authorities have launched a search for the driver and have opened a case of hit‑and‑run under the Indian Penal Code.
Witnesses said the bus was moving much faster than the permitted speed limit for that stretch of road. The incident has prompted calls for stricter traffic monitoring around busy bus stands in the region.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials are urging anyone with information about the driver or the vehicle to come forward.
