A Buddhist monk was arrested in a fake passport case after authorities discovered he had rented a bank account for ₹10,000 a month. The investigation revealed the monk was absconding and using the account for illicit activities.
The police arrested the monk on Tuesday evening in a joint operation with the Central Bureau of Investigation. The arrest came after a tip that the monk was using a forged passport to travel abroad. Investigators traced the passport to a fake document issued in 2019. The monk had rented a bank account for ₹10,000 a month, which was used to funnel money into offshore accounts. He is now facing charges under the Passport Act and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
