Border Security Force personnel, together with Punjab police, confiscated seven kilograms of heroin at the Amritsar border and detained two alleged drug smugglers.
Border Security Force (BSF) teams, in coordination with Punjab police, carried out a successful operation at the Amritsar border on Thursday, seizing a cache of illicit narcotics. The joint effort resulted in the recovery of seven kilograms of heroin, a significant quantity that underscores the scale of cross‑border drug trafficking in the region.
According to officials, the seizure was made after intelligence inputs pointed to a smuggling attempt via the border crossing. During the raid, two individuals suspected of transporting the narcotics were apprehended and taken into custody for further interrogation.
The authorities have launched a detailed investigation to trace the supply chain and identify any larger networks involved. The BSF and state police emphasized that such interceptions are part of an ongoing strategy to curb the flow of hard drugs into Punjab, which has been grappling with a surge in heroin abuse in recent years.
