A new report by IIT Delhi and TERI reveals that BS-III and BS-IV trucks entering the national capital are responsible for 62% of the particulate matter PM2.5 emissions from truck traffic.

A significant portion of Delhi's harmful PM2.5 air pollution, specifically from truck traffic, is attributed to older emission standard vehicles. A recent study conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) has identified BS-III and BS-IV compliant trucks entering the city as major contributors.

The report indicates that these older generation trucks are responsible for as much as 62% of the total PM2.5 emissions originating from truck movement within Delhi. This finding highlights the substantial impact of vehicular emission standards on air quality in the densely populated capital.

The research underscores the need for stricter emission norms and potential restrictions on older vehicles entering urban centers to mitigate severe air pollution challenges faced by cities like Delhi.
