Brother and Sister Vanish in Sirhind Canal During Ganesh Immersion, No Trace After Three Days

During the Ganesh immersion ceremony on 22 September, a brother and sister disappeared into the Sirhind Canal near Bahaman Bridge in Bathinda. Despite extensive searches, no trace has been found after three days, prompting family members to stage a protest.
On the evening of 22 September, while devotees were watching the immersion of the Ganesh idol in Bathinda’s Sirhind Canal, a brother and sister were reported to have fallen into the water near Bahaman Bridge. The incident was immediately reported to local authorities.
Search teams, including canal workers and volunteers, combed the canal and surrounding area for three days but were unable to locate any evidence of the missing persons. The canal’s strong current and depth were cited as possible factors that could have concealed the bodies.
The family of the missing siblings has taken to the roadside outside the canal, holding a protest to demand a thorough investigation and to seek assistance from the police and the district administration.
Police officials have assured the public that a joint search operation involving the canal authority and the local police will continue. They have also requested the community to report any sightings or information that could help locate the missing individuals.
