New Delhi – The BRICS grouping of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa officially endorsed the Guwahati Declaration during a recent summit, marking the first multilateral acknowledgment of Assam’s anti‑narcotics framework. The endorsement was announced by the BRICS foreign ministers’ communique, which highlighted the declaration’s focus on curbing drug trafficking and strengthening regional cooperation.
The Guwahati Declaration, drafted by the Assam state government, outlines a comprehensive plan that includes stricter border controls, enhanced intelligence sharing, and community‑based rehabilitation programs. It also calls for increased funding for law‑enforcement agencies and the establishment of a dedicated task force to monitor narcotics flows across the Northeast.
