With more demanding physical scenes, the Indian film industry is increasingly employing intimacy coordinators to safeguard actors' consent and comfort.
Bollywood productions are featuring a growing number of scenes that involve kissing, simulated intimacy or intense physical contact, prompting filmmakers to seek specialist support.
Intimacy coordinators, trained in choreography, consent protocols and legal standards, work alongside directors and actors to design and rehearse such sequences, ensuring that all participants are comfortable and fully informed.
The practice, already common in Hollywood, signals a shift in the Indian industry toward greater awareness of performers' rights, with several recent films reportedly hiring coordinators and trade bodies beginning discussions on formal guidelines.
