A protest demanding the abolition of the Bodh Gaya Temple Act of 1949 and full control of the Mahabodhi Mahavihara for the Buddhist community has reached its 500th day with monks remaining steadfast.
The ongoing protest concerning the management of the globally renowned Mahabodhi Mahavihara in Bodh Gaya has marked its 500th day. Demonstrators are advocating for the repeal of the Bodh Gaya Temple Act (BT Act) of 1949.
Central to their demand is the transfer of complete administrative control over the Mahavihara to the Buddhist community. The protestors, primarily Buddhist monks, have shown no signs of wavering in their resolve, continuing their demonstration for an extended period.
The movement highlights a long-standing dispute over the governance of one of Buddhism's holiest sites.
