A small wooden boat loaded with 18 day‑labourers capsized in the fast‑moving currents of the Ganga River near Navgachiya in Raghopur, Bhagalpur district. The incident occurred early on Saturday as the workers were attempting to cross the river to reach a construction site on the opposite bank.
Rescue teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) arrived within minutes, assisted by a team of professional divers. Twelve of the labourers were pulled out of the water and taken to a nearby health centre for medical observation.
Despite intensive search efforts, six individuals could not be located and are presumed missing. Authorities have launched a full‑scale search operation, deploying additional divers and surface‑level patrols along the river stretch.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of informal river crossings in the region, prompting local officials to urge workers to use authorised ferries and to avoid overcrowding small vessels during high‑flow periods.
