A sudden explosion during welding at a factory in Muzaffarpur's Motipur area badly burned several labourers, who were rushed to hospital for treatment.

A sudden blast erupted while welding work was in progress at a small manufacturing unit in the Motipur police‑station jurisdiction of Muzaffarpur, Bihar. The explosion ignited intense flames that engulfed several workers present at the site.

Emergency services reached the scene quickly, but the fire had already caused severe burns to the labourers. All the injured were immediately shifted to a nearby medical facility where they are receiving intensive care.

Eyewitnesses described a chaotic situation, with smoke, shouting and frantic attempts to control the blaze. Local authorities have cordoned off the area and are investigating the cause of the incident, focusing on safety compliance during welding operations.

The factory, identified as a bag‑making unit, has been temporarily shut down pending further inspection. Officials have urged similar small‑scale industrial units to review their safety protocols to prevent such accidents in the future.

The incident underscores the occupational hazards faced by workers in informal manufacturing setups across the state, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of labour safety regulations.
