Farmers' union BKU, led by Ekta Ugrahan, staged protests outside district collector offices in several Punjab districts, calling for the cancellation of a pending US agreement and a waiver of agricultural debts.
Farmers' union Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) organised a series of demonstrations across Punjab, with activists gathering outside district collector (DC) offices in multiple districts. The protests were spearheaded by Ekta Ugrahan, a prominent BKU leader, who addressed the crowds and reiterated the union's core demands.
The demonstrators called for the immediate scrapping of a pending trade or aid agreement with the United States, arguing that it would not benefit Indian farmers. In addition, they demanded a comprehensive waiver of outstanding agricultural debts, citing the financial distress faced by many cultivators in the state.
Organisers said the protests would continue until the government takes concrete steps to address both issues. No official response from the state administration or the central government was reported at the time of writing.
