The internal dispute over the Dungarpur municipal council president post was settled after former district president Prabhu Pandya withdrew his candidacy, leaving Sushila Gupta as the BJP’s main contender.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a clear majority in the Dungarpur municipal council elections, winning 24 of the 40 wards. This strong performance positioned the party to claim the council’s top office, but internal disagreements soon surfaced over the selection of the council president.

The controversy centered on two senior leaders: former district president Prabhu Pandya, who had initially been put forward as a candidate, and Sushila Gupta, a long‑time party worker. After intense discussions within the local BJP unit, Pandya announced his withdrawal from the race, effectively ending the leadership tussle.

With Pandya stepping aside, the party has officially endorsed Sushila Gupta as its primary candidate for the council president post. Party officials say her candidacy reflects a consensus aimed at maintaining unity and capitalising on the electoral mandate.

The council’s first meeting to elect the president is scheduled for next week, and observers note that Gupta’s unopposed standing could streamline the BJP’s control over the municipal administration.
