BJP activists staged a demonstration in Jalandhar claiming the Ambedkar statue was treated disrespectfully and burned a dummy representing the government.

Jalandhar, Punjab – Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a protest on Saturday demanding action over what they described as an insult to the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The party claimed that the monument had been subjected to "disrespectful" treatment, though specific details of the alleged act were not disclosed.

During the demonstration, protesters set fire to a dummy figure that they said represented the state government, symbolising their anger at the perceived negligence. The burning was carried out in a public area near the statue, drawing a crowd of onlookers and local residents.

Local police monitored the gathering but did not intervene to stop the effigy burning, citing the right to peaceful protest. No injuries were reported, and the protest concluded without further incidents.

The BJP has called for a formal inquiry into the handling of the Ambedkar statue and urged the state administration to take punitive measures against those responsible. The state government has not yet issued an official response.

The incident adds to a series of recent protests across Punjab concerning the protection of historical monuments and the sensitivities surrounding them.
