BJP MP Sawant Blames Election Commission for Voter Deletion, Distances Party from Govt

BJP MP Shankar Sawant has clarified that the recent voter deletions are not the responsibility of the central government or the BJP, attributing the issue to the Election Commission of India.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has come under scrutiny following reports of voter deletions in several constituencies. Shankar Sawant, a BJP Member of Parliament, addressed the media on Tuesday to clarify the party’s stance on the matter.
In a press conference held in New Delhi, Sawant emphasized that neither the central government nor the BJP had any role in the removal of voters from electoral rolls. He stated that the responsibility lies with the ECI, which is tasked with maintaining the accuracy of the electoral database.
Sawant added that the ECI’s processes are designed to be impartial and that any errors or deletions would be the result of administrative oversight rather than political interference. He urged the public to trust the institution’s mechanisms and to report any discrepancies directly to the commission.
The statement follows a series of complaints from opposition parties alleging that the deletions were politically motivated. Sawant’s remarks aim to distance the BJP from these allegations and to reinforce the party’s commitment to a fair electoral process.
The ECI has yet to respond to the accusations, but the agency has repeatedly assured that it follows strict protocols to prevent any undue influence on voter rolls.
