The BJP has lodged formal complaints alleging that fake students were enrolled in a scholarship scheme in Sangrur, Punjab, pointing to a possible fund misuse.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially filed complaints with local authorities in Sangrur, Punjab, claiming that a number of fictitious students were listed under a government scholarship programme. The party alleges that the inclusion of these non‑existent beneficiaries was intended to siphon off funds earmarked for genuine scholars.

According to the BJP filing, the alleged fake enrolments were discovered during an internal audit of the scholarship distribution process. The party contends that the irregularities point to a coordinated effort to divert public money, thereby undermining the scheme’s objective of supporting meritorious students from economically weaker sections.

State officials have acknowledged receipt of the complaints and said a probe will be launched to verify the allegations. The district administration has been instructed to examine enrollment records, financial disbursements and the role of any intermediaries who may have facilitated the fraud.

The BJP has called for a swift and transparent investigation, urging the government to hold accountable any individuals or agencies found responsible for the purported scam. It also demanded that recovered funds be redirected to legitimate scholarship recipients.
