With the Jhalawar municipal council’s chairman post now reserved for an OBC candidate, both BJP and Congress are scouting for faces who can win ward seats and secure a board majority.
The Rajasthan state election commission has declared that the chairperson position of the Jhalawar Nagar Parishad will be filled by a candidate from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, reshaping the local political calculus. This reservation applies to the council’s 45 wards, of which nine are designated as OBC‑reserved, making them the most contested zones. Both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress are now intensifying their search for candidates who can not only capture these key wards but also rally support across the remaining seats to form a majority on the council board. Party officials say the chosen faces must have strong grassroots connections and the ability to appeal to a broad cross‑section of voters, as the post‑reservation dynamics could determine control of the municipal body for the next five years.
