Member states of BIMSTEC approved the Delhi Declaration at the recent dialogue, aiming to enhance cooperation on regional security issues.
New Delhi hosted the latest BIMSTEC Dialogue where foreign ministers of the eight member nations convened to discuss common challenges. The summit concluded with the unanimous adoption of the Delhi Declaration, a framework intended to boost collective security across the Bay of Bengal region.
The declaration outlines a commitment to deepen collaboration on matters such as counter‑terrorism, maritime safety and emerging cyber threats. Signatories pledged to share intelligence, conduct joint exercises and coordinate policy responses to safeguard their borders and sea lanes.
Officials said the agreement reflects a growing consensus among BIMSTEC countries that coordinated action is essential for stability in South‑East Asia. The document will be operationalised through regular ministerial meetings and a dedicated security working group.
The adoption of the Delhi Declaration marks a significant step in the bloc’s effort to present a unified front on security concerns, reinforcing its role as a regional platform for cooperation.
