The Bihar government has issued an order requiring schools to achieve at least 75% student attendance and prohibiting the use of school premises for police housing.

Patna, Oct 31 — The state government of Bihar has mandated that all schools must maintain a minimum attendance of 75 percent for their students. The directive, issued by the education department, seeks to improve learning outcomes by ensuring that a larger share of enrolled children attend classes regularly.

In the same order, officials have instructed that police personnel may no longer be accommodated within school buildings. The ban aims to keep educational spaces free from non‑educational uses and to maintain a secure environment for students.

The order applies to both government and private schools across the state and will be monitored by district education officers. Schools failing to meet the attendance threshold or violating the housing ban may face administrative action, though specific penalties were not detailed in the announcement.

Education authorities said the measures are part of a broader effort to strengthen the quality of schooling in Bihar and to align with national guidelines on student participation.

Stakeholders, including school principals and teachers, have been asked to report compliance status to the state education secretariat on a monthly basis.
