The Mahagathbandhan has lodged a complaint with the Bihar Legislative Council Chairman, seeking termination of BJP membership for independent MLCs Dr. Rahul Raj and Banshidhar Brajvasi.
Bihar's political landscape has seen a fresh controversy after two independent members of the Legislative Council, Dr. Rahul Raj and Banshidhar Brajvasi, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. The Mahagathbandhan coalition has accused them of switching allegiance without following due procedure and has formally approached the council's chairman.
In its petition, the coalition alleges that the two legislators violated anti‑defection norms and seeks immediate cancellation of their BJP memberships, which would also affect their status as council members. The chairman has been asked to examine the complaint and take appropriate action under the council's rules.
Both Dr. Rahul Raj and Banshidhar Brajvasi have not publicly responded to the allegations as of now. The outcome will determine whether their seats remain occupied or become vacant, potentially altering the balance of power in the Bihar Legislative Council.
