Bihar launches solar drive, 25,000 families to receive aid, solar marts in 534 blocks

The Bihar government, in Patna, announced extra financial support for 25,000 rooftop‑solar beneficiaries under the PM Surya Ghar scheme and dispatched nine solar raths to kick‑start solar marts across 534 blocks.
Patna hosted a ceremony where the state government unveiled a large‑scale solar initiative aimed at expanding clean energy access in rural Bihar. Under the Prime Minister's Surya Ghar free‑electricity programme, 25,000 families that have installed rooftop solar panels will receive additional financial assistance from the state.
The assistance is intended to lower the upfront cost of solar installations and encourage wider adoption among low‑income households. Officials also announced the creation of "solar marts" – community‑run distribution points for solar equipment – that will be set up in 534 panchayat blocks across the state.
To mark the launch, nine solar raths loaded with panels and related hardware were dispatched from Patna, symbolising the rollout of the solar marts. The government expects the combined central‑state funding to accelerate Bihar's renewable‑energy targets and reduce dependence on conventional power sources.
