Bihar: Inter student Gulam Aashi swept away in Sorhar river, body found after 25 hours

A class‑12 student from Bihar was carried away by the Sorhar river and his body was recovered from nearby bushes 25 hours after he went missing.
The body of Gulam Aashi, a class‑12 student from a village in Gaya district, was recovered on Saturday after he was swept away by the Sorhar river on Friday evening. Local residents said the river was in spate following recent rains, and the teenager was attempting to cross it when he was caught in the current.
Search teams, including police and volunteers, combed the riverbanks and surrounding fields for more than a day. According to neighbours, the student's mother screamed for help as soon as she realized he was missing, prompting a frantic search that involved dozens of villagers.
After 25 hours, the body was located in a thicket of bushes about a kilometre downstream from the point where he was last seen. Officials confirmed the identification and informed the family, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
The incident has raised concerns about safety near swollen rivers during the monsoon season, but no criminal motive has been reported. Authorities have advised residents to avoid crossing fast‑moving water and to seek assistance if caught in similar situations.
