Bihar CM Samrat Chaudhary conducts aerial survey of Gandak from Sonpur to Valmikinagar amid rising flood waters

Following heavy rains in Nepal, the Gandak River’s level rose in Bihar, prompting Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary to fly over the Sonpur‑Valmikinagar stretch and inspect the Valmikinagar barrage.
Heavy monsoon rains in Nepal have caused severe flooding downstream, leading to a noticeable rise in the water level of the Gandak River within Bihar. State authorities reported that the river’s flow was increasing rapidly, raising concerns for districts along its banks.
In response, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary ordered an immediate aerial reconnaissance of the river corridor. He boarded a helicopter that flew from Sonpur to Valmikinagar, covering the stretch most vulnerable to the swelling waters.
During the flight, the chief minister inspected the Valmikinagar barrage, a key structure for regulating Gandak’s discharge. Officials accompanying him briefed Chaudhary on the current outflow rates, the extent of inundation in nearby villages, and the measures being taken to manage the flood risk.
The CM emphasized that continuous monitoring would continue and that relief teams are on standby to assist affected communities, while urging residents to stay alert and follow safety advisories.
