Bihar Battles Severe Flooding Even as Rainfall Remains Low, Says CM

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said Bihar is experiencing severe flooding despite low rainfall, prompting urgent relief measures across the state.
Patna – The state of Bihar is grappling with extensive flooding even though recent meteorological data shows rainfall levels well below the seasonal average, the chief minister said on Tuesday. Nitish Kumar highlighted that the waterlogging is not linked to heavy rains but to swollen rivers and inadequate drainage.
Districts along the Ganges and its tributaries, including Begusarai, Khagaria and Munger, reported water levels rising to dangerous heights, submerging low‑lying villages and forcing thousands to evacuate. Preliminary estimates suggest that several hundred households have lost their homes and that agricultural fields are being inundated.
State authorities have mobilised over 2,000 rescue personnel, deployed the Indian Army’s engineering units, and set up temporary relief camps in affected areas. Food, clean water and medical kits are being distributed, while officials urge residents to avoid wading through floodwaters.
Meteorologists warn that the situation could worsen if upstream water releases continue, and the government has appealed for cooperation from neighboring states. The chief minister called for community vigilance and promised additional resources to mitigate the crisis.
