The Bihar government has sanctioned the operation of 16 medical colleges and hospitals under a public‑private partnership scheme, aiming to expand healthcare and medical education across the state.
The Bihar government announced on Thursday that it will operate 16 medical colleges and hospitals under a public‑private partnership (PPP) model. The decision, taken by the state cabinet, is part of an effort to increase access to quality healthcare and medical education in underserved areas.
Under the PPP framework, private entities will manage the day‑to‑day operations of the institutions while the state will provide land, infrastructure and regulatory support. The model is expected to bring in investment, improve service delivery and reduce the burden on public finances.
The 16 institutions will be spread across 12 districts, with a mix of new campuses and upgrades of existing facilities. The plan includes both teaching hospitals and affiliated colleges that will offer MBBS and allied health courses.
The government has outlined a phased implementation schedule, with the first batch of colleges slated to open in the next academic year. Officials said the move will create thousands of jobs and enhance the overall health ecosystem in Bihar.
