Around 140 traders from Bhopal's TT Nagar, evicted in 2020 for the Smart City project, are still waiting for new shops. Despite budget approval and initial construction, the project remains stalled.
Traders in Bhopal's TT Nagar area are facing an indefinite wait for new commercial spaces, six years after their original shops were demolished as part of the Smart City initiative. Approximately 140 business owners were displaced in 2020 from the Jawahar Chowk locality.
Despite the allocation of funds and the commencement of construction work for alternative shops, the project has reportedly been halted midway. This has left the affected traders in a state of uncertainty and hardship, as they continue to seek resolution.
The delay in providing the promised new market facilities has severely impacted the livelihoods of these local businesses, who have been campaigning for the completion of the project for an extended period.
