A two‑day strike by municipal cleaners in Bhopal has halted waste collection, leaving garbage piles on streets and markets and causing 800 vehicles to remain stranded.
Municipal cleaners in Bhopal have been on an indefinite strike for two consecutive days, halting waste collection from residential areas and market complexes. The stoppage has resulted in large heaps of garbage lining streets, alleys and market lanes, creating a noticeable foul smell and health concerns for residents.
Local traders, unable to move their goods, reported that about eight hundred vehicles are parked and unable to leave the congested zones. With no official cleaning crews on duty, shop owners have taken it upon themselves to clear pathways around their stalls to keep business flowing.
City officials have yet to announce a timeline for resolving the dispute, and the municipal corporation is facing pressure to restore regular sanitation services to prevent further deterioration of public hygiene.
The ongoing impasse underscores the dependence of urban infrastructure on frontline sanitation workers and highlights the immediate impact of labor actions on daily life in the capital of Madhya Pradesh.
