Bhopal readies seven ghats with cranes, divers and LED lights for Ganesh Visarjan

Bhopal is gearing up for the annual Ganesh Visarjan, with the municipal corporation mobilising a large fleet of equipment and personnel at the city's key riverbanks. Seven principal ghats have been earmarked for the immersion ceremony, each equipped with heavy‑duty cranes to handle the large Ganesh idols safely. In addition to the 13 cranes, 12 traditional boats (pokalens) and a team of 184 trained divers have been positioned to oversee the submergence process and respond to any emergencies.
The deployment reflects the city's emphasis on crowd safety and efficient idol removal, especially after previous years saw congestion and occasional mishaps. Divers will monitor water levels and assist in guiding the idols to deeper sections of the lake, while the cranes ensure a controlled descent, minimizing damage to the structures and the environment.
To enhance visibility and guide devotees during the night hours, the corporation has installed 1,665 LED lights along the ghats and the designated procession routes. The bright, energy‑efficient lighting is expected to improve safety for both participants and onlookers, while also adding a festive ambience to the ritual.
Officials confirmed that all preparations are complete and that the city will continue to coordinate with volunteer groups and security agencies to ensure a smooth and orderly Visarjan ceremony.
The comprehensive setup underscores Bhopal's commitment to preserving the cultural significance of Ganesh Chaturthi while addressing logistical challenges in a densely populated urban setting.
