A police raid led by the Bhopal ACP at a gambling den in Chowk Bazaar resulted in the seizure of over Rs 2 lakh and the suspension of three police officers, including the station in‑charge.
The anti‑corruption cell of the Bhopal police, headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, carried out a surprise raid on a gambling operation located in the crowded Chowk Bazaar area. Officers entered the premises after receiving intelligence about illegal betting activities and found a makeshift gambling den operating openly.
During the operation, the team confiscated cash exceeding Rs 2 lakh along with betting paraphernalia. In the aftermath, three police personnel – the station in‑charge and two subordinate officers – were suspended for alleged involvement in facilitating the illegal games, highlighting lapses in internal oversight.
Senior police officials said a thorough inquiry will be launched to determine the extent of the collusion and to ensure stricter enforcement against gambling networks in the city. The incident underscores growing concerns over law‑enforcement officers turning a blind eye to illicit activities in urban markets.
