The Bhopal Police Commissioner has issued an order prohibiting the manufacture, sale and use of carbide guns and illegal firecrackers to curb Diwali accidents, after 186 eye injuries were reported last year.

Bhopal police commissioner issued a directive on Tuesday that bans the production, distribution and usage of carbide guns and unauthorised firecrackers in the city. The order, aimed at preventing mishaps during the upcoming Diwali celebrations, mandates that any individual or business found dealing in such items will face legal action.

The move follows a report from last year that 186 residents suffered eye injuries linked to illegal fireworks. Authorities said the high number of injuries underscored the need for stricter enforcement of existing firecracker regulations.

Police officials will conduct surprise raids on workshops and street stalls suspected of manufacturing or selling prohibited devices. Violators can be arrested under the Explosives Act and face fines or imprisonment, according to the commissioner’s statement.

The commissioner also urged citizens to purchase only licensed fireworks and to follow safety guidelines, emphasizing that responsible celebrations can prevent avoidable injuries.

The order will remain in effect throughout the festive period, and compliance will be monitored by the Bhopal police department in coordination with state fire safety agencies.
