Around 13,000 Bhopal municipal employees have continued a strike into a second day, causing garbage collection to stop and disrupting tap water supply in several areas.

Bhopal’s municipal workforce, numbering close to 13,000, has remained on strike for a second consecutive day, coinciding with the Dhanteras festival. The employees, who manage waste collection and water distribution, halted their duties as part of a protest against pending grievances.

The suspension of garbage collection has resulted in visible piles of waste accumulating on streets across several wards. Residents reported that the uncollected refuse is attracting pests and creating unhygienic conditions in the city’s neighborhoods.

In addition to the waste issue, the strike has disrupted the city’s drinking‑water supply. Many localities are experiencing closed taps, and water tankers that normally ferry water to underserved areas have ceased operations, leaving households without a reliable source of potable water.

Municipal officials have appealed to the striking workers to resume essential services, emphasizing the health risks posed by the buildup of garbage and the interruption of water supply. Negotiations are reportedly underway, but no timeline has been given for a resolution.
