The Bhopal Municipal Corporation began a sealing drive against illegal constructions, sealing eight shops in Arare Colony and 25 in Gautam Nagar, prompting protests from shop owners.

The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) launched an enforcement operation targeting illegal commercial structures across the city. In the early hours of the drive, officials sealed eight shops in the Arare Colony area and a further 25 shops in Gautam Nagar.

Municipal officers cited violations of building codes and unauthorized extensions as the basis for the action. The sealed premises were reportedly operating without the required clearances, prompting the corporation to act under its mandate to regularise urban spaces.

Shop owners from both localities gathered at the sites to voice their dissent, demanding a reconsideration of the orders. While the protest remained peaceful, the BMC reiterated that the sealing will continue until compliance is achieved.

The corporation has not disclosed a timeline for reopening the shops, but indicated that owners may apply for regularisation or appeal the decision through established channels.

This sealing drive forms part of a broader effort by the BMC to curb illegal construction and ensure orderly development in Bhopal.
