The Bhopal Municipal Corporation ordered the sealing of 109 commercial units operating within residential premises in six assembly segments, prompting protests from traders who say the move threatens jobs and livelihoods.
The Bhopal Municipal Corporation has carried out a large‑scale operation to shut down illegal commercial establishments that were functioning inside residential buildings. Officials targeted premises that were found to be in violation of zoning and land‑use regulations.
A total of 109 shops and other business entities were sealed across six assembly constituencies in the city. Some of the establishments were subjected to forced sealing, indicating that owners did not comply with prior notices.
The crackdown has sparked anger among local traders, who argue that the sudden closures are jeopardising the livelihoods of employees and disrupting the flow of commerce in the affected neighborhoods.
Municipal authorities maintain that the action is necessary to enforce proper land‑use policies and to prevent the encroachment of commercial activities in residential zones, which can strain infrastructure and compromise safety.
