The Bhopal municipal authority has introduced ten additional electric buses on three major routes, promising a bus every 10‑15 minutes during peak hours and improved links to the metro‑rail network.
The Bhopal municipal corporation has rolled out an expansion of the Prime Minister's e‑bus service, adding ten brand‑new electric buses to its fleet. The new vehicles will operate on three of the city's most heavily travelled corridors, a move aimed at strengthening public transport coverage.
According to officials, the additional buses will reduce waiting times during peak periods to roughly ten to fifteen minutes, a significant improvement over the current schedule. The three routes have been selected for their high passenger volumes and strategic importance in linking residential, commercial and educational zones.
The expanded service also seeks to enhance multimodal connectivity by synchronising bus timings with the city's metro‑rail system, allowing commuters smoother transfers. Transport planners expect the increased frequency to encourage a shift from private vehicles to public transit, easing road congestion.
Beyond convenience, the deployment of electric buses aligns with Bhopal's environmental goals, cutting diesel‑related emissions and contributing to cleaner urban air quality.
