BHEL Kalibadi Road in Bhopal Reinforced for Jan 15 Army Day Parade

A 3.5‑km stretch of the BHEL Kalibadi road in Bhopal will be widened to 15 metres to allow 60‑ton military vehicles and tanks to pass for the Army Day parade on Jan 15.
The Madhya Pradesh government has ordered a major upgrade of the BHEL Kalibadi route in Bhopal ahead of the annual Army Day parade scheduled for 15 January. Over a length of about 3.5 kilometres, the existing road will be reinforced and its width increased to 15 metres, enabling heavy military hardware to move without restriction.
The enhancement is aimed at accommodating vehicles weighing up to 60 tonnes, including main battle tanks that will form part of the ceremonial procession. Officials say the widened corridor will also improve traffic flow for the estimated 50,000 spectators expected to line the route.
Construction crews are working under a tight deadline to complete the work before the parade, with safety and structural integrity as top priorities. The upgraded stretch is expected to remain in use for future defence displays and logistical movements in the region.
Local authorities have coordinated with the defence establishment to ensure that the road meets the required load‑bearing standards. The project reflects the city's role in showcasing India's armed forces during the national celebration of Army Day.
