The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology announced that 295 gram panchayats in Jammu & Kashmir have been upgraded under the BharatNet scheme, with 930 kilometres of optical fibre laid to improve connectivity.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) today confirmed that 295 gram panchayats across Jammu & Kashmir have been upgraded under the BharatNet initiative.

A total of 930 kilometres of optical fibre cable has been laid, providing high‑speed broadband connectivity to remote villages in the region.

The upgrade is part of the national effort to bridge the digital divide and enable e‑government services, e‑learning and e‑health solutions for rural communities.

Officials said the new infrastructure will also support local businesses and improve access to information and services for residents of the upgraded panchayats.
