‘Bharat Taxi’ service launched in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Kanpur, Prayagraj

The state government of Uttar Pradesh has rolled out a new taxi initiative called ‘Bharat Taxi’. The service was first launched in the capital, Lucknow, and has been simultaneously extended to four other major cities – Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Kanpur and Prayagraj.

According to the announcement, the scheme aims to provide affordable, reliable and regulated urban transport across the selected cities. By integrating a common booking platform and standardized fare structures, officials hope to improve commuter safety and reduce reliance on unregulated private operators.

The launch was marked by a short ceremony attended by senior transport officials, who emphasized that the service will be monitored closely for quality and punctuality. The rollout is part of a broader effort by the state to modernise public mobility and support economic activity in its urban centres.

Further expansion to additional towns is expected later in the year, contingent on demand and operational performance.
