The newly launched Blue Line of Bengaluru Metro will provide passengers with reduced fares for airport commutes, according to the transport department.
On 15 March 2024, the Bengaluru Metro’s Blue Line began operations, linking the Kempegowda International Airport to the city’s central business district. Transport officials said the new line will offer a 20% discount on the standard fare for airport commuters, making it the most affordable option for travelers. The 12‑km stretch, which includes six stations, is expected to carry over 30,000 passengers daily, according to a recent ridership projection. While the metro’s launch is a boon for Bengaluru’s commuters, the state’s transport department noted that a recent ban on stone transport in Tamil Nadu could delay the delivery of construction materials for future extensions of the line.
