The Karnataka government has announced a comprehensive infrastructure plan that will add nine townships, a 300‑kilometre metro network, a 210‑kilometre ring road and a regional rapid transit system in Bengaluru over the next decade.
The Karnataka state administration, citing an Economic Times report, unveiled an ambitious ten‑year urban development programme for Bengaluru. The plan aims to transform the city’s infrastructure landscape by introducing a suite of large‑scale projects.
Key components include the creation of nine new townships on the city’s periphery, a 300‑kilometre metro line that will extend the existing network, a 210‑kilometre ring road designed to decongest inner‑city traffic, and a Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) linking Bengaluru with neighbouring hubs.
Officials say the integrated approach is intended to address chronic traffic bottlenecks, provide affordable housing options, and stimulate economic activity across the metropolitan region. While detailed funding and phasing schedules are yet to be released, the announcement signals a major push toward sustainable urban growth.
The projects are expected to roll out in stages, with early works on the ring road and select metro corridors slated to begin within the next two years, aligning with the state’s broader vision of a smart, connected Bengaluru.
