The Bengaluru police have turned down a petition filed by a TV channel chief seeking to be recorded as a witness in the ongoing Siddaramaiah sting investigation.
Bengaluru police on Monday rejected a petition submitted by the chief of a regional television channel who asked to be listed as a witness in the high‑profile sting operation involving former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah. The police filing stated that the plea did not meet procedural requirements and that the channel chief’s testimony was not essential to the case.
The sting case, which has been under investigation since early this year, alleges that Siddaramaiah was recorded accepting illicit benefits. The probe is being handled by the Bengaluru Crime Branch, which has already recorded statements from several senior officials and businesspersons linked to the alleged scheme.
Legal experts note that the police’s refusal to admit the channel chief as a witness could limit the scope of media‑related evidence, but the investigation will continue with the existing set of witnesses. The matter may now be taken up by the court to determine whether any further amendments to the witness list are permissible.
