In 2026, Bengaluru reported 90% of the 4,212 influenza cases recorded across Karnataka, according to health officials.

The Karnataka Health Department confirmed that out of 4,212 influenza cases registered in the state during 2026, 3,791 were from Bengaluru, representing roughly 90 percent of the total.

Officials attribute the concentration to the city’s high population density, frequent air travel, and seasonal weather patterns that favor viral spread. Hospitals in Bengaluru also see a larger share of patients seeking treatment, which can inflate city‑level statistics.

The department has urged residents to get vaccinated, practice regular hand hygiene, and avoid crowded indoor gatherings during peak flu weeks. Surveillance teams are increasing testing capacity in Bengaluru to monitor any surge and to better understand transmission dynamics.

Health experts caution that while Bengaluru bears the brunt of the current outbreak, coordinated efforts across Karnataka are essential to contain the virus and prevent further strain on medical facilities.
