Police in West Bengal have detained a man suspected of involvement in a terror conspiracy linked to an offshoot of the banned Jamat‑ul‑Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
West Bengal police announced the arrest of a man alleged to have connections with a terror conspiracy tied to an offshoot of the banned Jamat‑ul‑Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). The detainee was taken into custody following intelligence inputs that pointed to his role in planning extremist activities.
The JMB, proscribed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, has historically operated in the region, and security agencies have warned of splinter groups attempting to revive its agenda. Investigators say the arrested individual is believed to have been coordinating with such a faction, though details of the network remain under scrutiny.
Authorities indicated that the case is being forwarded to the anti‑terrorism cell for further interrogation and that charges under anti‑terrorism statutes are likely to be filed. The police emphasized that the operation underscores ongoing efforts to dismantle extremist cells in the state.
