Beetle infestation slashes honey yields across Punjab farms

Beekeepers across Punjab are reporting a sudden drop in honey output after a wave of beetles attacked apiaries in the region. The insects have been found inside hives, feeding on brood and weakening colonies, which has led to lower honey yields for the current harvest.
The loss is being felt by both small‑scale farmers and larger commercial beekeepers, who rely on honey sales for a significant portion of their income. Many have described the situation as unprecedented, noting that previous seasons did not see such widespread pest pressure.
State agricultural officials have acknowledged the problem and are advising beekeepers to adopt integrated pest‑management practices, including regular hive inspections and the use of approved insecticidal treatments.
