Beed in Maharashtra has finally received a direct railway connection to Pune, ending a long‑standing demand, and officials say a Beed‑Panvel service is slated next.

A direct railway line linking Beed to Pune was inaugurated this week, fulfilling a demand that has lingered for decades. The new service cuts travel time significantly, offering residents of the largely agrarian district a faster, more reliable connection to the commercial hub of Pune.

Transport officials highlighted that the link is expected to boost local commerce, facilitate easier access to education and health facilities, and attract investment to the region. Trains now run several times a day, with schedules coordinated to suit both commuter and freight traffic.

The railway department announced that a subsequent Beed‑Panvel service is under preparation, which would extend connectivity to the Mumbai metropolitan area. The extension is part of Maharashtra's broader plan to improve intra‑state rail infrastructure and promote balanced regional development.

Stakeholders, including local business groups and farmer associations, welcomed the development, noting that improved logistics could lower input costs and open new markets for agricultural produce.

The project, funded jointly by the state and central governments, marks a milestone in the state's effort to modernise its transport network after years of delayed implementation.
