Internal sources say the Board of Control for Cricket in India is drafting rules that let each franchise keep a maximum of five players and employ a single Right‑to‑Match card in the upcoming 2027 mega‑auction.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing a new set of regulations for the IPL 2027 mega‑auction, according to internal sources. The draft rules would permit each franchise to retain a maximum of five players ahead of the auction.

In addition, the proposals introduce a single Right‑to‑Match (RTM) card that a franchise can use to match the highest bid for a player it wishes to bring back. The RTM mechanism is intended to give teams greater flexibility in rebuilding their squads while maintaining competitive balance.

The changes are being discussed within the BCCI and are expected to be finalised before the auction schedule is announced. If approved, the new retention and RTM limits will shape team strategies for the 2027 season.
