The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has approved a pilot project to install environmentally friendly green‑coated corridors, called ‘green patches’, around key traffic junctions to reduce dust and improve air quality.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has approved a pilot initiative to create environmentally friendly, green‑coated corridors, termed “green patches”, around major traffic junctions in Bengaluru. The project aims to curb the city’s air‑pollution levels and address persistent dust problems that affect residents and commuters.

Under the scheme, BBMP will experimentally construct these green patches at selected high‑traffic intersections. The green coating is designed to trap dust particles and reduce the amount of particulate matter released into the atmosphere, thereby contributing to cleaner air.

Officials said the pilot will help assess the effectiveness of green‑patch corridors before any wider rollout across the city. If successful, the initiative could become a model for other Indian metros seeking low‑cost, eco‑friendly solutions to urban air‑quality challenges.
