The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has issued new guidelines that will levy heavy penalties on apartments and houses that fail to separate wet and dry waste, effective immediately.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has released new waste‑disposal guidelines aimed at improving segregation of household waste in the city.

Under the guidelines, apartments and houses that do not keep wet waste and dry waste separate will be subject to heavy fines, with the penalty regime taking effect from today.

The measure is intended to strengthen the city’s waste‑management system, reduce the amount of mixed waste sent to landfills, and promote recycling of dry waste.

The directive applies to all residential units within the BBMP jurisdiction, and residents are advised to adopt proper segregation practices to avoid penalties.

BBMP officials have urged the public to cooperate fully with the new rule to ensure a cleaner and more sustainable Bangalore.
