The newly built Barapulla elevated corridor linking Mayur Vihar Phase‑1 and INA, intended for signal‑free travel, is now causing congestion due to phased implementation delays.
The Delhi government inaugurated the Barapulla elevated corridor to provide a continuous, signal‑free link between Mayur Vihar Phase‑1 and the INA area. Designed as a high‑speed, grade‑separated route, the corridor was expected to ease commuter traffic across the eastern part of the capital.
However, officials admitted that the project was executed in a phased manner that left critical junctions incomplete. As a result, vehicles entering the corridor encounter sudden lane reductions and merge points, turning the once‑promised fast lane into a choke point during peak hours.
Commuters have reported longer travel times and increased congestion on adjacent surface roads, prompting the municipal traffic department to consider remedial measures such as additional entry‑exit ramps and revised signal timings. The situation underscores the challenges of staggered infrastructure rollout in a densely populated city.
